I have always found audio stories fascinating (see: NPR, Radio Lab and "One in Eight Million"). They contain just as much variety and layers as photo and video stories. In fact, sometimes images can be distracting. I wonder if a life without sight would affect our current friendships (maybe some); romantic interests (maybe most); and choices, like in food (we would have to go by smell and feel?). Taking the expression, "You can't judge a book by its cover" a step further, we would find a world without covers and superficial appearances. Using just audio, we illiminate the physical baggage -- with stereotypes and associations -- that come in a photo or video piece.
When I return to Oregon, and find myself with a computer that isn't old and feeble like mine, I'd like to put together some audio stories of my travels over these past months. I've been writing and posting multimedia, but at the least, it could be interesting to illustrate some of the places with just sound.
Here are three random recordings from my iPod touch:
This I made on January 3, while waiting for a tram in Berlin.

While I was staying in Heidelberg with Anne, we had a traditional German dinner a few days before Christmas. My friends knew I was recording, so there's probably more giggling than normal. The sounds make me nostalgic for that evening:

Lastly: In Heidelberg I met an American friend who was on break from studying Swahili in Zanzabar. I loved hearing her stories, and was able to capture a bit from the talk:
